Spring edition of our newsletter Outlook
We really only have one subject in this issue of Outlook, How to comply on eye care with the new GAIN Guidelines and Clinical Standards of Care for People with Diabetes in Care Homes.
There are two pieces of information that you will need to record in relation to eye care.
1 Resident’s Visual Acuities
2 Date of Retinal Screening
As part of our individual care plan report which we provide following an eye examination we record the visual acuities so you will have them to hand when it comes to completing your GAIN annual review for the RQIA.
Retinal Screening is contracted to the Hospital and this service can be organised for your residents by their GP. There will be those however within your home, who are simply not able or well enough to travel to attend this outpatient appointment. When we see a diabetic resident we provide a full report of their retinal examination to their GP and issue a statement to you to be included in their GAIN review.
In the very near future you are going to receive another GAIN standard on eye care within the home. We have been involved in the development of this and although it may at first appear very onerous we already have everything in place to ensure that homes who receive their eyecare from optomise meet, and indeed exceed this standard through the eye care, supporting documentation and training we provide.
If you would like to arrange a meeting or training for your home or if you need further information on diabetic eye care or the upcoming GAIN eye care standards, please email me on or call 028 9182 7780. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
Winter edition of our newsletter Outlook.
Training
We all need to show evidence of continuing education and our lead article discusses this and how we may be able to help. We have also launched our ‘Learning Zone’ on the back two pages and hope this will become a regular feature. Let me know what you think of it. If any of the staff would like a copy of this and future articles e-mailed to them directly just let me know.
Old Spectacles
If you have any old spectacles that you would like to donate to the third world we would be delighted to collect them for Vision Aid Overseas.
As always we would like to thank you for your ongoing help and support. If you have any questions or suggestions on the work we do or the service we provide please contact us on 028 9182 7780 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Customer Testimonials
Optomise provided a fantastic service to my Mother. She can’t get out anymore and we new her sight was failing but thought nothing could be done. Then we found out about optomise. They came to the house, tested her eyes, explained all about her cataracts and got her seen at the hospital. She’s now had both cataracts done and she is a new woman, Mum’s back.
